Zhiyun (Jaylene) Xue joined the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in May 2006. She works with Sameer Antani and Rodney Long on the project of Content Based Image Retrieval for Cervicographic Image Database.

Dr. Xue received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 2006, and her master's and bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 1998 and 1996, respectively. Her research interests include medical image analysis, computer vision, and machine learning.

Current Projects

Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR): The National Library of Medicine and the National Cancer Institute are creating a digital archive of cervicographic images and correlated diagnostic data. Access to this database by image characteristics is expected to greatly benefit medical education and research into uterine cervical cancer. Our long-term goal is to create a content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system for the cervicographic database. My work includes developing a Web-accessible prototype system which can retrieve cervix tissue regions that are similar to the query region with respect to color, texture, size, and location properties on a subset of the database, as well as developing algorithms for cervicographic image analysis.
