Client Syntax

Request parameters for RIDeM servlet:

  • Definition request-

    • sender - short client name (for example, infobot) required At present, definitions are available only to infobot users

    • define - UMLS unique concept identifier (CUI)

  • Concepts request-

    • sender - short client name (for example, infobot) required At present, concepts are available only to infobot users

    • maptool - software and vocabularies for mappings:

      • essie (UMLS clinical view)
      • MetaMap (UMLS)
      • MMTx (2004 UMLS)
      • ridem (UMLS Disorder group + negation)

    • concepts - free text for extraction of UMLS concepts Max length = 300 words

  • Pharmacologic action request-

    • sender - short client name (for example, infobot) required At present, pharmacological action is available only to infobot users

    • pharmaction - UMLS unique concept identifier (CUI)

  • Search request-

    • Client identification - required three part identifier of the request:

      • sender - short client name (for example, infobot)

      • apid - persistent anonymized identifier of the digital object

      • qid - unique query identifier for a given apid

    • Patient's characteristics - optional information in requests coming from individual medical records (Currently not used):

      • age - patient's age group as defined in PubMed Limits:

        • newborn
        • allinfant
        • infant
        • allchild
        • preschool
        • child
        • adolescent
        • alladult
        • adult
        • middleaged
        • middleagedplus
        • aged
        • over80

      • gender - patient's gender

      • ethnicity - patient's ethnicity

      • hoProblems - patient's pre-existing condition. For example, history of smoking

      • hoMeds - medications for pre-existing condition. For example, statins

      • findings - Clinical manifestations observed during examination, or reported by the patient

      • labBlood - results of laboratory blood analysis

      • labUrine - results of laboratory urine analysis

      • labOther - results of unspecified laboratory analysis

    • Search Terms - based on the EBM framework for well-formed clinical questions. At least one of these fields is required:

      • patient - patient/population description

      • problems - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of current problems

      • interventions - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of main interventions (for example, cause, diagnostic method, treatment)

      • meds - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of intended/current medications

      • other - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of unspecified search terms

      • genes - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of genes or proteins

    • Search Parameters - optional advanced search options

      • searchEngine - information retrieval system to use:

        • pubmed

        • essie

        • essieSum

        • ridem

      • task - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of clinical tasks (similar to PubMed Clinical Queries):

        • Recent

        • Diagnosis

        • Etiology

        • Genetic

        • Outcome

        • Prevention

        • Prognosis

        • Treatment

        • EBM

      • amount - number of citations to retrieve (max = 30 min = 1 default = 5)

      • filter - filter=problem reduces retrieval results to citations in which the problems  identified as being studied  exactly match the problems in the request

      • hasabstract - only MEDLINE citations with abstracts are retrieved if hasabstract=yes

      • spellcheck - if spellcheck=yes, the original search terms are replaced with spelling suggested by ESpell

      • lang - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of languages:

        • English

        • French

        • German

        • Italian

        • Japanese

        • Russian

        • Spanish

      • organism - articles restricted to:

        • humans

        • animals

        • humans+animals

      • subset - a semicolon ( ; ) separated list of MEDLINE subsets:

        • aim - core clinical English language journals

        • nurs - Nursing journals

        • systematic - systematic reviews

        • tox - searching for subjects in the area of toxicology

        • cochrane - restrict MEDLINE search to Cochrane database of systematic reviews. Cannot be combined with other subsets. Results are retrieved using PubMed
