BCWT Biomedical Image Compression

CEB has carried out technical work with Texas Tech University toward the compression of biomedical images using advanced Wavelet transform methods, open standards, and the ability to specify and decompress selected regions in large images. This latter capability will allow a client application to specify a desired region within a large medical image residing on a server, to receive over the Web the compressed bytes for that region, and to efficiently decompress that region on the client side.

The National Library of Medicine has made the BCWT image compression code available as open-source software under a BSD style license. The software and license information is currently available as a Java project by request and may be requested using the Contact Us page. A download link and an implementation in C/C++ will be provided in the near future.
