Daekeun You
I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The State University of New York at
Buffalo. This summer I am working with Dr. Sameer Antani on the image and text integration (ITI) project. My task
for the project is localizing and recognizing commonly found symbols and text on figure images in articles. I am
developing a new symbol recognition algorithm based on Markov Random Field (MRF). This development is the assigned
task for the ITI project this summer and my dissertation research as well. My research interests are in pattern
recognition, machine learning, image processing, and document image analysis.

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Lehigh University. My research interests
include shape analysis, object tracking and image segmentation. I received my B. Eng. degree from East China University
of Science and Technology. At NLM, as a summer intern, I am working with Sameer Antani and Rodney Long on the 3D
Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) project.

I am working as a summer intern at NLM. I am doing my masters in computer science from University of Maryland Baltimore
County. I am working with Glenn Ford on a project called Interactive Publications (IP). I think this is going to be a
great opportunity of working with Professionals and learn new technologies.

I am a PhD student in the Computer Science department at University of Maryland Baltimore County. I will be working
over the summer with Dr. Sameer Antani at the National Library of Medicine on feature selection for efficient
content-based image retrieval for heterogeneous image collections. Our goal is to identify feature sets that
distinguish between different medical image types using the imageCLEFmed 2008 database as a benchmark, and
validating the performance of these feature sets on an independent collection of medical images.

I am a postdoctoral scholar in the Center for Dental Informatics, School of Dental Medicine at the University of
Pittsburgh. This summer, I am participating in the NLM Rotation for Medical Informatics Trainees. My research
focus is on systematic review methods and literature-based discovery. I came here to learn about machine learning
methods with Dr. Dina Demner-Fushman. We are working on a project to automate the initial screening phase of
systematic reviews.
