Siyuan Chen
Dr. Siyuan Chen joined the Communications Engineering Branch of U.S. National Library of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow since December 2006. He works with Dr. Song Mao on the project of the System for Preservation of Electronic Resources (SPER) for metadata extraction from historical documents.
Dr. Chen earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He earned his bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Dalian University of Technology, China, in 2000. His research interests include handwriting recognition, document image analysis and various topics on pattern recognition and machine learning.

Yaoyao Zhu
I am currently a PhD candidate in Lehigh University. My research area is pattern recognition, image processing and data mining. I received the BS degree from Peking University in China and MS degree from University of Cincinnati. At NLM, as a summer intern, I am working with Dr. Rodney Long and Dr. Sameer Antani on CBIR (Content-based Image Retrieval System for Cervical Cancer Database).

Jiang Li
I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The State University of New York at Buffalo. My research interests include image processing and pattern recognition. Being a summer intern this year at CEB of the National Library of Medicine, I am working with Dr. Dina Demner Fushman and Dr. Sameer Antani on the image and text integration project. I am working on automatic text location on medical images, feature extraction from medical images for automatic classification, and image classification for automatic annotating medical images with combined text feature and image feature.

Balaji Srinivasan
I am a Masters student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park. I received my Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India. My research interests include Image Processing and Spatial audio processing. At NLM, as a summer intern, I am working under Dr. Sameer Antani on the automatic detection and separation of multi-panel images.

Kara Peterman
Kara is currently in her third year at Swarthmore College and is working towards a double major in engineering and statistics. As an intern this summer at NLM, she is working with Frank Walker on the myDelivery project. Kara intends to continue her studies at the graduate level, concentrating on finance and financial engineering. In addition to her interests in natural sciences and engineering, Kara is a serious clarinetist who greatly enjoys all forms of classical music.
